IBU Product Declaration for new Product Lines
As one of the first building metal manufacturers we have held an ISO 14025 Type III product declaration for our semi-finished titanium zinc since the 1990s. The product declaration according to the new EN 18504 has now been issued for the latest product lines RHEINZINK-prePATINA®, -PROTECT® and -INTERIEUR® on the basis of current life cycle assessment data and was officially presented on 17 January 2013 at our stand at the BAU 2013 fair in Munich.
Following comprehensive evaluation of their entire life cycle the product lines RHEINZINK-prePATINA®, -PROTECT® and -INTERIEUR® have been declared environmentally friendly building products by the organisation Institute Construction and Environment (Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU)) according to ISO 14025 Type III and the new EN 18505 standard. This ecological label for building products, which is unique in Europe, ensures reliable assessment of the "green" values relevant to environmental sustainability.
Type III declarations are issued on the basis of criteria developed with the help of independent third parties and are also reviewed by an independent advisory board. This means that they are ideal when making an objective comparison between building products in terms of their environmental impact. They provide a systematic and standardised data basis to produce an ecological assessment of a building in the modular construction system using declarations for individual building products. A life cycle analysis takes into consideration the entire life of a building, the construction phase, usage including possible conversion as well as demolition and disposal, with any contribution made by the building products to energy efficiency or other aspects of sustainable building management also being included here. The Environmental Product Declaration is designed to encourage the development of environmentally friendly construction techniques which are not harmful to health.
