Zinc is Key to preventing Colds
How do you prevent and treat the common cold? Zinc and hand washing are best for prevention according to a review recently released in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
Zinc prevents colds in children and possibly adults, based on the findings of two randomized trials. The results indicated that children (5-8 year) who took 10 or 15 mg of zinc sulfate tablets daily had lower rates of colds and fewer absences from school due to colds. The authors also reported evidence that zinc tablets may shorten the duration of a cold in adults.
