The competition for the new construction of a six-classroom kindergarten in Klosterneuburg Kierling focused on the mindful use of resources. The team at syntax architektur takes care to keep the CO2 emissions of the buildings they design as low as possible. The materials used were therefore selected with great care, for the roof, the natural material RHEINZINK-prePATINA blue-gray.
“There is a wide variety of materials available today, so it is necessary to take a closer look and understand complex interrelationships. We have learned that RHEINZINK has the lowest CO2 footprint among all building metals. The carbon footprint is assessed for all our projects. The lifespan of the selected materials is important to us; it’s not just about long-term functionality - for us architects, lasting aesthetics are also significant. We design beautiful and functional buildings, and we want them to stay that way. These days, cost-effectiveness is also a major consideration, so it’s always important to the client that neither maintenance nor upkeep is required for the roof and facade,” explains architect Michael Barth.
“RHEINZINK has a natural patina that cleans and protects itself, and its surface has been proven to look just as beautiful in 40 years as it does today. When clients want their property to remain beautiful and protected over the long term, I recommend RHEINZINK, because other materials often start to look dingy after just 10 years. Few materials have an ecological footprint as positive as RHEINZINK’s. For me, RHEINZINK is an ideal material for roof and facade design, as well as for roof drainage. Thanks to its handcrafted installation, every component can be customized to suit individual needs,” says master tinsmith and entrepreneur Jürgen Schöpf.
